Create Your Meditation Corner: A Sanctuary for Mind, Body, & Soul
Designing a meditation corner can truly work wonders for your well-being. It doesn’t need to be large or elaborate—just intentional. Choose a comfortable place to sit, whether that’s a cozy swivel chair, a soft floor cushion, or even a pouf. Comfort is key to helping you feel grounded!
Incorporate elements that support your spiritual and emotional practice—think indoor plants for life and freshness, crystals for energy, and any meaningful objects that bring you peace. A study published in BMC Public Health found that individuals who perceived their home environments as greener reported better mental health (Loder et al., 2020). Plants have a huge impact on our mental health and is key in our meditation spaces. I also like to keep the palette calming with soft neutrals and add one intentional splash of color for energy or focus.
Personally, I’ve dedicated a small corner of my bedroom to be my meditation space. It’s where I go to breathe, relax, and reset. It reminds me to pause—and to prioritize my mental health, even on the busiest days. A 2022 study published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology found that individuals who made small but intentional changes to their living environment—such as adding plants, improving lighting, or investing in soundproof windows—reported a 21% reduction in stress levels over six months (Borman, 2025). Intention is necessary when putting together your meditation space.
Since May is Mental Health Awareness Month, it’s the perfect time to turn a corner of your home into a sanctuary that nurtures your mind, body, and soul. Don’t forget to layer in aromatherapy—whether it’s a candle, an essential oil diffuser, or incense, scent can instantly shift the mood and bring calm to your space.
